Siamsport website are reporting that Thai Port will try and coax Japanese football legend Hidetoshi Nakata out of retirement for the 2011 Thai Premier League season. The 33 year old former Roma, Fiorentina, Parma and Perugia midfielder, who was widely regarded as the finest Asian player of his generation, retired from professional football four years ago after a short stint in the EPL with Bolton Wanderers.
As much as I'd love to see Nakata in the orange and blue shirt of Thai Port, it's a total non-starter for several reasons. On announcing his retirement in 2006 he stated: "I will never again stand on the pitch as a professional player. But I will never give up football." If he hasn't made a comeback in the last 4 years, why would he do so to play in the Thai Premier League? As I said in the title of this post - I'll believe it when I see it!
