The Bangkok Post also claims that Dr Vichit has clarified the foreign player rule for 2012; "Each TPL side will be allowed to have up to five foreign players on their books with a maximum three non-Asian players and one Asian on the pitch at the same time. The new regulation is to be in line with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) rules".
It'll be interesting to see how Thai Port deal with the rule change. I believe that we have six foreigners signed up for next season, plus Ney Fabiano, who is yet to be officially confirmed as a Port player. Clearly, seven into five does not go...I doubt any of them will fancy a season on-loan at Angthong, either!
UPDATE: The 2012 TPL fixtures will be published on January 31st. The season is scheduled to run from March 17th to November 10th. The interpretation of the foreign player regulation is still changing day-by-day. Teams can, apparently, register 7 players, with the 3+1 rule still applying.

Stat of the day: Port have lost their last 4 opening day fixtures, scoring 0 goals in the process.
ReplyDelete2008: Port 0-1 TOT
2009: Muangthong United 3-0 Port
2010: Samut Songkhram 1-0 Port
2011: Chonburi 2-0 Port
Looks like the rule is now 5 players in the matchday squad, max 3 on the pitch (4 if one's Asian) However, teams will be allowed 7 in overall squad because of signings made while the TPL has been fannying about with this rule in the last 6 weeks or so.
ReplyDeleteThat would definitely be the sensible thing to do, Wolf. The rules should have been set in stone before the transfer window re-opened. Yet another TPL farce!
DeleteThe rule change should be announced a year before it goes into effect! League could have a bright future, but TIT!! If there are three correct roads to travel and one disaster, you can bet folks here will choose the disaster.
